MedWatch logo MedWatch - The FDA Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program

Stryker Operating Room System II Surgical Navigation System - Recall

Audience: Hospital risk managers, surgical service managers

Stryker and FDA notified healthcare professionals of a recall of 23 Operating Room System II Surgical Navigation Systems because there is a potential for the navigation PC SPC-1 component to stop working which could result in the screen freezing, the system updating at a slow rate, or not responding at all. The Navigation System II is a computer aided surgery platform that surgeons can use to perform Hip, Knee, Spine, Neuro and ENT surgical procedures and contains a computer workstation with the navigation System II software and various components necessary to run the system. The potential harms associated with this failure are: delay in surgery, reschedule of the procedure resulting in an additional surgery, risk of infection, increased morbidity, potential neurological deficits, or injury due to the surgeon operating in an area where they did not intend to operate. Depending on the type of surgery, these failures could potentially lead to serious adverse health consequences, including death. Hospitals that have product that corresponds to the catalog numbers above should immediately quarantine the product, label it as a recalled product and stop using the product.

Be ready for next year's EU Sustainable Energy Week

We all know it: our energy future must be different from today's situation. New and renewable energy sources must replace fossil fuels, we will need to use energy more efficiently, and the future has to be low-carbon. This is what the EUSEW is set to address.

It will take place from 22-26 March 2010. Find out more on www.eusew.eu and click on the links below to add the EUSEW 2010 to your calendar.

For PC users                                                For Mac users

EU Sustainable Energy Week 2010: What's in it for you?

1.       Many Energy Days across the EU – yours as well?

Wherever you live in Europe, you can be part of the EUSEW by organising an Energy Day in your region or town. If your event promotes energy efficiency or renewable energy and will take place during 22-26 March (including preceding and following weekends), sign up your event on www.eusew.eu ("Energy Days in Europe").

2.       A series of high-level events in Brussels – be a part of it

European institutions, associates of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, and other important players in the field organise a series of events in Brussels during the EUSEW, including a 3-day policy and networking conference in the premises of the European Commission from 23-25 March.

If you plan to organise an event on renewable energy or energy efficiency in Brussels during 22-26 March, it is possible to add it to the agenda of EUSEW events in Brussels. You profit from more visibility and free registration services. How? Simply get in touch with the EUSEW secretariat (eusew@sustenergy.org).
